New for 2024 – Squabbit Tournament Scoring App

Download the free app and set up a free Squabbit account. Send me the email address you used to setup your account and I will ensure your player account is assigned to our tournament. That’s all you need to do! When you log in, you will see the tournament.

The day of the outing, you will start your round in Squabbit and record your scores for each hole. The live leaderboard will automatically update after each hole, showing individual rank, team rank, and skins status (both gross and net). Note: At least 1 person in your foursome must have Squabbit installed. They can keep scores for everyone in the group.

Len Wilkie Classic Tournament Rules

Observe the standard USGA Rules of Golf except where the following exceptions apply. These modifications are intended to keep up speed of play, protect the players, and accommodate some unaddressed issues in the official USGA rules for reasonable fair play.

Format

There are 2 teams – Blue vs Gray. Each player will play their own ball and record their gross score and points for each hole

Team Scoring

We use a modified Stableford Point System for team scores:

  • Bogey – 1
  • Par – 2
  • Birdie – 3
  • Eagle – 5
  • Double Eagle – 7

The player with the lowest gross score after 3 rounds wins the tournament trophy. The team with the most total stableford points wins $$

How to keep scores?

  • Keep scores for each person in your cart
    • 1st Line – Player 1 Score
    • 2nd Line – Player 1 Points
    • 3rd Line – Player 2 Score
    • 4th Line – Player 2 Points

Max Score = The player is encouraged to pick up once they have accumulated a score of three over par on a given hole.

Trophies

Trophies are awarded to the players with the lowest gross scores

  • Tournament – Player with the lowest gross score
  • Senior – Player age 60+ with the lowest gross score
  • If there is a tie, the players will have a 1 hole playoff
  • Players take their trophy home to have it engraved to match past styles. Trophies must be brought to the next outing

Gambling

  • $$ for proxies included in entry fee
  • Proxies are included in all rounds and will be paid out after each round
  • CTP for all par 3s, however, this may change at the commissioner’s discretion
  • Ball must be on the green to count (no fringe)
  • If all players do not hit a particular green, the greenie carries over to the next hole
  • Net and Gross Skins – cost is $30 per person for the weekend. Skins will be managed through Squabbit using 90% of the players course handicap index and paid out at end of tournament. Handicaps will be calculated in 18Birdies or GHIN and loaded to Squabbit 1 week prior to start of round on Friday. If a player doesn’t have a handicap, one will be assigned based on past scores in the LWC tournament. If no other scores are available, the player will play as scratch.

Other Local Rules

Pace of Play

Simple philosophy – hit it, find it, hit it again

When possible, play ready-golf to keep pace of play, but respect order of play on the putting surface.

No more than 3 mins to look for a lost ball – We don’t want to pull a Brooksy and start strokin’ dudes!

‘Gimmes’ – The player may pick up any putt inside of six inches for one stroke, but this must be confirmed by another player of the opposite team in the group before picking up the ball.

Divots – Ground Under Repair

Divots are considered a form of ground under repair anywhere on the course. The ball will be placed immediately adjacent to the divot, no nearer the hole and in the same type of grass/lie (cannot move between grass types, cuts or from rough to fairway).

Lift, Clean, and Place

If conditions become wet, casual water, the commissioner may allow lift, clean and place rule – this needs to be confirmed prior to the round. The player can pick up ball, clean it, and place it back onto the turf, no nearer to the hole and in the same type of grass/lie (cannot move between grass types, cuts or from rough to fairway).

Rocks in Bunkers

If your swing will be affected by a rock in a bunker nearby to your ball you may move the rock at no penalty – this does not apply to rocks under your feet/in your stance.

Tree Roots

Balls that come to rest against roots may be moved slightly to avoid contact during the swing at no penalty to the player. If the ball is moved, no significant advantage to line or swing can be gained.

Out of Bounds and Lost Ball

Shots that cannot be found within three minutes of approaching the landing area are considered ‘lost’ and are a one stroke penalty. Shots hit out-of-bounds are an automatic one stroke penalty. In both scenarios the player has three options of how to proceed.

  1. The player may drop within two club lengths, no nearer the hole, of where the ball last crossed out-of-bounds or was thought to have landed (by group agreement)
  2. The player may drop anywhere along the flight path of the previous shot such that the drop is no closer to the hole than the distance between the out-of-bounds/lost ball assumed location and the hole
  3. The player may follow the standard USGA Rules of Golf, re-hitting from the prior location with stroke and distance penalty (don’t know why the hell you would ever do that given alternatives, but it’s an option…)
